World First Cairo Camo Hybrid Jacket

Shop polychromelab and Heimplanet Cairo Camo Hybrid Jacket

Out now the new Cairo Camo Hybrid Jacket by polychromelab and Heimplanet in Heimplanet’s online shop. Design and Fashion Blog Hypebeast also goes for this hybrid jacket’s functionality.

Product development of Cairo Camo hybrid jacket

It all starts – like always – with an idea. Heimplanet decides to manufacture special camouflage tents. For this purpose Cairo Camo pattern is developed. This geometric Arabic pattern creates with special colouring a three-dimensional, tectonic effect that we call „camouflage“.

Additionally, to go in line with the new Heimplanet tents, a true hybrid jacket is designed. The goal is to combine design and functinal aspects without reduction. This is why Heimplanet meets polychromelab. We know each other since ISPO 2012 and worked together in winter 2013/14 to test Heimplanet’s tents under extreme conditions at polychromelab’s Alpine Proof outdoor laboratory at mount Glungezer scientifically.

Polychromelab designs a concept and develops the technic for pigmentation of polychromelab hybrid textiles. This isn’t a very easy process, because we needed to prove long lasting of colour pigments in 2000 simulation hours at Alpine Proof outdoor laboratory.

2000 hours. Let’s say one wears his jacket about two hours a day. So if we divide 2000 by two, we have 1000 wearing days. 1000 days are almost three years. So a Cairo Camo jacket can by worn for three years, everyday, under the most extreme conditions, without colour bleaching.

How does this work? We have something up our sleeve: there is a posibility to proof colour pigmentation on a fabric that don’t become lighter with the time but darker. So Cairo Camo hybrid jacket doesn’t bleach out and as a functional jacket stays an unique design apparel. And the best thing is: the whole process works without toxics!

At last, we’d like to mention that Outdoor Aesthetics made a great video interviewing Stefan Clauss from Heimplanet explaining Heimplanet, Cairo Camo and team work with polychromelab. Enjoy the video!

And for all the exited ones, there’s place for the most important link: have a look on Cairo Camo hybrid jacket at Heimplanet online shop!

Night Skiing vs. Product Test

Product Test at Night Skiing in Tyrol

Equiped with headtorches and a go pro we started at 2610 meters from our textiles research lab next to the Glungezer Hütte in Tyrol. In winter there are always some repairs to do. Additionally measured data by sensors, which we fixed to jackets for product testing, gives us insight concerning their functionality and resilience against exposure to nature.

Unfortunately work took longer as expected this time, so we had to go for night skiing on our way home. Beeing experienced with such incidents we had headtorches with us. Knowing the downhill route quite well after years of fieldtesting and product development at Mount Glungezer night skiing off the slopes wasn’t that dangerous.

At the Ready for Serial Production

Out and about in nature and Tyrol’s mountain range equipment easily is stretched to its limit. The wearout of gear is high, beeing outdoor about 300 days a year. When one is freezing, sweating, or feeling unpleasantly wind, or having to bear nature in any other way, one gets a lot of ideas of what else to wear to feel more comfortable concerning clothes.

At the ready, as you can see on the pictures, are new whole-body-clothing concepts, which we want to realise using polychromelab’s 3 layer laminate. By now there are only ideas and first prototypes to be tested at night skiing, but soon there will be more to tell.

Textiles innovative – textile research in new dimensions

Sports and Textiles, Research and Innovation: Tyrol innovative

Michael Hasler and Werner Nachbauer take the textiles research in Tyrol to the next level. The regions Tyrol and Vorarlberg support research projects, which investigate the synergy of textiles and man to produce gear of the future. In near future all programms will be coordinated under the name Alpine Proof.

Interesting research projects are cooperating in Tyrol and Vorarlberg. The concept from polychromelab contains to realise an alpine seal of approval to award scientifically and applied proven sports gear. Alpine Proof stands for quality, sustainability, progress and innovation and especially for products optimated for application.

Outdoor-Blog about textile research

Outdoor-Blog Hochbewegt writes about polychromelab’s textile research in Tyrol

And again we’ve found a interesting media posting about polychromelab. Thanks to the outdoor-blog Hochbewegt, which is writing a thrilling report about our textile research in the Tyrolean Alps. You’ll find the full article about applied textile research here.

„The Tyrolean startup company polychromelab tragets placing the outdoor apparel of the future on the market.“

And this is exactly what we stand for. With our outdoor research in our alpine lab polychromelab 2610 we’d like to realise an alpine seal of approval for textiles and apparel in near future. The so called Alpine Proof distinguishes products, which were put to the acid test under real weather conditions in the Tyrolean Alps. The goal to achieve is to install a seal of approval for highly qualitative textiles, which, tested under real conditions, will keep their promisses.

Stay tuned and we’ll tell you all about the progress of our textile research in the Tyrolean Alps.

New mountain jacket with new colours

Testing new colour combination of the mountain jacket

A mountain jacket not only has to offer functionality, but also has to look good. As a valuable textiles-manufacturer of course both aspects lie us to heart.

First of all, we develope jackets, that can stand even the most extreme conditions in the mountains. To test this out we expose the proto-types a few months to the unpredictable alpine weather at the Glungezer-Lab. Because a mountain jacket has to be windproof, waterproof and sturdy. Through natural erosion of wind and rain we can survey how well the material does under real conditions.

But also fashion aspects do matter to us. Because of that we develope new colour combinations, which work properly and additionaly look pretty good. First there was black-silver, then blue-bronze and now a grey-green mountain jacket. All jackets are conceptualized as reversible jackets and, if you believe it or not, the dark-coloured side warms and the bright-coloured side cools. This way the hybrid jacket not only protects from wind and weather, but also supports the wearer to regulate and stabilise body temperature.

Soon the day has come: one of the final tests is the applied test of the proto-type. Here are some pictures of a mountain run through the Alps wearing the new grey-green mountain jacket from polychromelab.

Fast Donna – super light ladies running jacket

Ladies running jacket in outdoor use test

We take it to heart to develope innovative products. Everywhere, where are shortcomings on the market and new customers‘ needs emerge, innovation is required. Innovation not only means novelty but also progress and improvement. And this is exactly what we do: this time it is a ladies running jacket we’d like to innovate.

Fast Donna running jacket is perfect for women. The sporty, feminine style suits for both sports and leisure time. More than one year we put the jacket to the acid test in Tyrol’s nature, because we want the durability of polychrome jackets to outlast a long time, so the running jacket becomes more like a companion for life. Below there are some pictures of the Fast Donna outdoor use test.

But only to create a new running jacket is still no innovation. A high tech jacket has to offer an additional value and this is exactly what the Fast Donna does. The ladies running jacket is conceptualized as a reversible jacket, that can warm and cool. So if you’re doing sports, just wear the metallic silver side outside and the textile reflects sunlight to cool body temperature down. If you’re exhausted, simply reverse inside out and the dull black side absorbs sunlight to warm the body noticeably. Besides, the Fast Donna weighs only 240g.

Curious? Visit our polychromelab concept store for more information about the Fast Donna. By the way, our concept was nominated for the Innovation Award Tirol 2014.
