Innovation Tailoring in the New Office

It is not for nothing that this press statement was released: Starting august, the “innovationg tailoring polychromelab”, like they’re fondly calling us, has its new office in skiing region Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis. Moving means a lot of work to do, especially moving an high altitude research lab from one place to another, on which we’ve reported a few weeks ago. But this wasn’t the only challenge we had to manage, additionally we had to build our new office TexStyleKitchen.

This name isn’t made up out of thin air: In a former inn on Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis’ sun plateau we’re renovating at the moment. Coincidentally we temporarily stored alpine jackets in the former kitchen of the inn. The name almost was perfect, but the special pronouncation of “style” should spell out that we’re not only engineer functional textiles, but also flavour our soup with a great amount of style and design.

You’ll find the latest updates on renovation of TexStyleKitchen on our facebook page.

Outdoor Research in Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis

Moving to Serfaus: Alpine Proof Outdoor Research and its new Location

Polychromelab’s Alpine Proof is a project to establish a seal of approval for outdoor gear, which is tested under extreme weather conditions in Tyrol to investigate its credibility and functioning. Alpine Proof still is at the ready, but soon polychromelab’s textiles outdoor research finds a new location in Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis.

Part 4: This is just a Slope, isn’t it?

Four men and one dog are standing on a slope nearby a ski lift of skiing region Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis. In winter there are dozens of people on this very ski slope. But how should one do outdoor research here?

textilien alpine proof forschung serfaus

Well, it won’t be an alltogether uncomplicated project, because now there isn’t a sign that in a few weeks the new Alpine Proof textiles research lab will be standing here. We’re especially happy about this professional collaboration with Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis, which makes dreams come true (soon).

These pictures are from the breifing. In a few weeks a platform will be built on this spot. Then we’ll have a lab with internet, meteo station, sleeping accommodation and most importantly dummies for textiles outdoor research. These we’ll use to simulate wearing of outdoor gear. This way we can scientifically prove what outdoor gear is capable of outdoors – not behind closed doors in studios – and whether there are weak spots which can be improved.

Roccia Rossa Hybrid Jackets and their Rocky Trail

Moving to Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis: Innovative Hybrid Jackets are Breaking Trail

2009 concept, 2010 first prototype, 2011 first awards, 2012 foundation, 2013 first store and webshop, 2014 textiles research Alpine Proof, 2015 first relocation. This is a brief history of polychromelab so far. In part one of our way to Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis we presented our Store Ski Manufacture, in part two we talked about Alpine Proof. In part three we’d like to concentrate on the rocky trail Roccia Rossa hybrid jackets had to break.

Part 3: From Prototype to Flagship

This shouldn’t sound arrogant, we’d only like to point out difficulties innovative startup companies have to hurdle to establish their products on the market – which we luckily managed.

hybridjacken onlineshop trailrun polychromelab

It all started with the concept of a black silver hybrid jacket, that warms one the black side and cools on the silver one. Without financial support we wouldn’t have managed to build the first prototype which is necessary to win awards to convince the critical mass. We took this step with black silver Alta Quota hybrid jackets to win Outdoor Industry Award 2012.

But a concept that may be ever so groundbreaking will not establish on the market without being developed further: so a black silver jacket solely would be a little bit boring for good. So we asked ourselves, is their a chance to transfer this principle of reflection and absorption to different colours? Maybe not to every colour, but within a consistent research process and supported by first incomes we were able to design Roccia Rossa hybrid jackets.

Roccia Rossa hasn’t won ISPO Award 2014 in vain: Nowadays a combination of design and functionality, authenticity and innovation is essential. Roccia Rossa hybrid jackets is adapted to red rocks (thus the Italian name “Roccia”) in Tyrolean alps. Functionality is ideal for outdoor sports. Its design makes this hybrid jackets suitable for every day. As a consequence ISPO Award 2014.

Now we’re on our way to Serfaus – Fiss – Ladis, where we’ll focus our competences to take the next step. Because in a few years what we achieved until now won’t be enough. This is the rocky trail of innovation.

Alpine Proof: World’s Highest Alpine Lab

Moving to Serfaus Fiss Ladis: World’s Highest Textiles Research Lab

A pile of moving boxes and trunks. The change of scenery takes shape. A change of scenery in the name of innovation. When we first introduced Alpine Proof we located world’s highest textiles research lab at the Glungezer on 2610 meters. This site is unique and extreme, but it isn’t extreme enough for Alpine Proof’s aims: At our new destination Serfaus Fiss Ladis Alpine Proof is able to analyse the interaction of man and textile under strain in alpine regions even better. The goal is to pursue innovation to its very limits to get world’s best textiles.

Part 2: How to Move an Alpine Lab?

To achieve our goals we take on us this extra workload the move means and dismantle Alpine Proof alpine lab at Glungezer and rebuild it in Serfaus Fiss Ladis. This is how it’s done: Weather at Glungezer always was indescribably extreme, one of a kind, majestic, about what it is remembering us on that very day like it’s trying to make our goodbye and move to Serfaus even harder.

And there it was! It’s spring in Tyrol and everywhere snow! It took only one night and suddenly one needs a quad to transport stuff of Alpine Proof alpine lab from 2610 meters into the valley. Thanks again to Gregor from Gufl youth hostel for borrowing us his quad!

After this uphill rollercoaster ride we started packing. This equipment contains a meteo station, batteries for solar panels from Goal Zero, concrete which we initially needed for fixing, cabels, dummies and our ergometer mountainbike which soon is enjoying the view on upper Inntal.

Here’s part one of our moving story of moving to Serfaus Fiss Ladis.

Store Ski Manufacture: Our First Jackets Shop

Moving to Serfaus Fiss Ladis: Jackets Shop Ski Manufacture in Hall in Tyrol

After two great years we’re leaving the jackets shop in Hall in Tyrol and move to Sefaus Fiss Ladis. Here we find a site combining alpine textiles research Alpine Proof near the place we’re living and working. Samnaun-Silvretta mountains offer unlimited possibilities for taking jackets from polychromelab by continious tests to the next level. Thinking of all the new chances we don’t want to forget about the happy and particular important memories of our stay at Hall in Tyrol and Glungezer.

Part 1: Reviving Ski Manufacture

Back in the days smallest ski manufacturer of the world was situated in the historic part of Hall in Tyrol. The spirit of these original, handmade Vielhaber-skis is still alive. Jackets retailer polychromelab worked in an unique atmosphere: Tyrol offers its beautiful nature and mountains, polychromelab combines this idea with innovation and urbanity.

We had many guests over in our Store Ski Manufacture and met some inspiring personalities. Having a brief chat with the inventors, soaking in the spirit and wearing the product during a walk around the block and feel immediately function and style, many stopped by and got to know polychromelab’s functioning principle.

It all started after a long time of rest with a great house warming party in the former Vielhaber-Ski Manufacture. At the same time we opened our online shop, we invited friends and fans to the opening of our first jackets shop to have a grill burger and drink with us.

In the next two years some great events took place like the visit of ZDF’s filmteam. They had a look on both the glungezer lab and our store in Hall in Tyrol to get to know where we work. Here’s the full video from ZDF.

But this wasn’t the only film made in this historic jackets shop: Filmteam Fancytreefriends shot the image video of polychromelab for Tyrol’s Innovation Award 2014 starring alpine jackets by polychromelab. Here’s a picture from the set.

After this great time spent we always think of our first jackets shop with positive feelings, but we’re also happy to take the next step to Serfaus Fiss Ladis.

Here’s the jackets shop’s contact area.

We’re moving to Serfaus Fiss Ladis!

Moving to Serfaus Fiss Ladis: Skiing Gear Research in Samnaun and Silvretta Alps

We hardly can’t wait, at the same time we’re feeling a little bit queasy, but soon polychromelab moves from Hall in Tyrol / Glungezer to Serfaus Fiss Ladis. This means we have to move the alpine skiing gear research lab Alpine Proof too. In a few months we’re enjoying great conditions, possibilities and mountains in Serfaus Fiss Ladis in Samnaun and Silvretta Alps. There we will continue applied textiles research and jacket tests only a few minutes away from our new office. On 1st August 2015 there will be polychromelab in Serfaus Fiss Ladis. How to reach us in the meantime, you’ll learn in our contact area here.

That’s it for now. But at this point we’d like to say how great our stay in Hall in Tyrol / Glungezer was. Sometimes one like’s to split down in the middle.

On this occassion we’re remembering two great years of skiing gear research at Glungezer Hütte. Here’s an insight to polychromelab’s work at Glungezer Hütte.
